Frequently Asked Questions
What's the purpose of this project?
Because of a long time hinder such as culture barriers, poor financial power, and other complicated reasons, there are few academic materials and literature books in English at Chinese universities and colleges, especially those in western and inland China. The lack of western books has impaired the academic growth of their students and faculty in an evolving global society. To bridge this gap, the Books-for-China Fund was established to collect books from private collections of scholars and retired professors, college libraries, and publishing houses, and send the books to university libraries in China.
What kind of books can I donate?Books in all academic subjects, regardless of their languages, formats, dates and place of publication, are welcomed. However, because of the cost to store and ship books, we do not accept children's book, textbooks below college level, and popular magazines.
How do I deliver my books to the project? If you live closer to the East Coast and have books to donate, please contact Yixiong Xu by phone at (201)655-2033 or by email at info@booksforchina.org, then send the books to

Relying mainly on personal contacts, the volunteers of this project search for, find, and urge retired scholars, libraries, and publishers to donate their used and discarded books to this project. The books are shipped by container to the project’s receiving station in China which is Xiamen University Library (XUL) at Xiamen. XUL will forward the books to various recipient university libraries.
How can I designate my books to my favorite college ?Someone may wish to donate his books to his/her alma mater. In order to accomplish this, the donor should paste a label on each box of his books stating clearly the name of the donor and that of the recipient library. Once the books reached XUL in China, XUL will notify the recipient library.
I would like to offer my help. What can I do?The implementation of this project requires a considerable amount of manpower and resources. We can certainly use your help to collect, deliver or store donated books during various stages of operation of the project.
